Volunteer Recruitment & Training Session

📍Location: Richmond (near airport), 110-6086 Russ Baker Wy, Richmond

📅Date: January 25, 2026 (Sunday)

On Sunday, January 25, Shufa Foundation held its first Volunteer Recruitment and Training Session in Richmond. Community members gathered to hear the founder’s message, learn about the foundation’s vision and activities, and discover how they could help bring calligraphy to more people—whether through workshops, Shufa Circle, cultural exchange, or the longer path toward teacher training.

The middle of the session focused on what it means to be a Shufa volunteer: the chance to work alongside instructors, gain first-hand experience at events, and support guests as they try calligraphy for the first time. We spoke about the different ways to participate—as a volunteer, a member, a Shufa Circle participant, or a future teacher partner—and the small, practical things that make a Shufa Cultural Heritage Experience Booth welcoming for everyone.

A highlight of the afternoon was the hands-on spring couplet practice. The room split into two groups and took turns playing “staff” and “guests,” so everyone could practise setting up a Shufa Cultural Heritage Experience Booth and guiding visitors through a short Shufa moment. After each round, we came back together to share what worked and what to try next. The session closed with sign-ups for upcoming events in February, from Newton Library to Tesla Richmond and West Vancouver.

Thank you to everyone who joined. Your interest and willingness to step in are what make it possible to introduce Shufa to every community. We look forward to seeing you at the next event
