Lunar New Year Celebration at Surrey Newton Library
📍 Location: Surrey Newton Library
📅 Date: February 7, 2026
🤝 Co-hosted by: Shufa Foundation & S.U.C.C.E.S.S.
Surrey Newton Library welcomed the community for a lively Lunar New Year Celebration filled with culture, creativity, and connection. Visitors of all ages enjoyed hands-on activities such as calligraphy, lantern crafts, and face painting, alongside cultural performances and light refreshments.
A special highlight of the event was the calligraphy activity featuring the character “福” (fortune). Participants learned the tradition of displaying 福 upside down, as “福倒了” sounds like “福到了” in Chinese—symbolizing that good fortune has arrived. This meaningful tradition offered a wonderful opportunity to explore the deeper cultural significance behind Lunar New Year customs.
The event created a welcoming space for community members to learn, share, and celebrate together, marking the Lunar New Year with joy and cultural appreciation.
