Lunar New Year Market at Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre

📍 Location: Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre, Burnaby
📅 Date: January 31, 2026
🤝 Event: Lunar New Year Market (春節年貨大街) — co-hosted by TCCBC and partner organizations. Shufa Foundation led the calligraphy performance and spring couplets writing experience.

The Lunar New Year Market at the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre brought the Burnaby community together for a day of festive foods, cultural gifts, and hands-on traditions. Visitors of all ages explored the Year of the Horse theme—“好運馬上來,” or “good fortune on the way”—through performances, crafts, and family activities, with free admission for everyone.

A highlight of the day was the calligraphy program. Shufa Foundation opened the stage with a calligraphy performance, followed by a spring couplets (春聯) writing experience where participants could pick up the brush and try writing characters for the new year. Many children and families tried calligraphy for the first time, connecting the ancient art with the joy of Lunar New Year in an accessible, welcoming way.

The event created a shared space for cultural exchange and celebration, and we were grateful to be part of bringing ink, brush, and tradition to the community at the start of the lunar year.
